Smit, MBA – President Founding partner Ms. Nancy Smit, MBA leads the SHR team in providing quality practice management and business strategy services for physicians and healthcare organizations. She is directly involved in all aspects of the firm’s management and consults with clients on strategic planning and marketing, partnership issues, practice enhancement, regulatory compliance, finance and reimbursement issues. Ms. Smit holds an MBA from Loyola College in Baltimore and is a registered physical therapist (RPT) and respiratory therapist (RRT). Corinne M. Lears, MBA – Senior Consultant, Practice Management Specialist Ms. Corinne Lears, MBA consults in all aspects of practice management including operations, personnel management, regulatory compliance, finance and budgeting, strategic planning and capital acquisitions. She has extensive computer expertise and develops statistical analysis and reporting systems for clients. Ms. Lears holds a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology and an MBA with a concentration in Health Care Administration from Loyola College in Baltimore. Marie D. Pelino, CPC – Senior Consultant, Reimbursement Specialist Ms. Marie Pelino is a Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) and uses this expertise to help clients maximize reimbursement from third-party payers. She designs and implements charge capture and coding systems, conducts billing audits, and provides training for physicians and billing staff on diagnostic and procedural coding. Ms. Pelino holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. Christine M. Perkey, RN – Senior Consultant, Practice Management Specialist Ms. Christine Perkey, RN has more than 25 years of combined clinical and administrative experience. With extensive expertise in practice operations, billing and third-party reimbursement, she analyzes accounts receivable to increase reimbursement for clients. Ms. Perkey also re-engineers internal operations, addresses human resources issues, develops and implements marketing plans, and facilitates practice relocations. Jeanette C. Delgado – Manager, Consulting Support Services Supporting both the internal consulting team and SHR clients, Ms. Jeanette Delgado develops marketing materials, performs public relations, provides accounting support services for practices and conducts staff training on various computer software systems. She has more than twenty years experience in customer relations, administration and accounting. Ms. Delgado holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with a concentration in marketing from the University of Maryland and a Masters Certificate in Graphic Design. Affiliate Team Edwin C. Saiontz, MBA – Co-Founder and Consultant Mr. Edwin Saiontz, MBA, co-founded SHR in 1981 and was President/CEO until 2000. He has more than 25 years experience working with physicians, hospitals, universities and other businesses. Currently he serves as advisor to the consulting team and works with clients in the areas of strategic planning, acquisition and development, organizational structure, finance and marketing. Mr. Saiontz holds an MBA from Loyola College in Baltimore. Leif Beck, JD - Consultant Mr. Leif Beck, JD, CHBC has been a medical management consultant for more than 25 years. Mr. Beck was previously the owner of Advisory Publications which is known nationwide for publishing a variety of practice-related books and newsletters including Group Practice Solutions. He sold that company in 2003 and now focuses his attention on working with physicians on practice planning, ownership arrangements, leadership development, governance issues and group dynamics. Mr. Beck holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Duke University and a Juris Doctorate from Duke University School of Law. Karen Childress – Writer Healthcare consultant turned freelance writer Karen Childress works with SHR’s clients who need fresh, innovative marketing materials and web site content. She also writes feature articles for healthcare publications and is available for editing, co-authoring and ghost writing.
